He was commissioned into the Air Defense Corps through the Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana in May1977. From 1978 to 1982, his assignments were Bravo and Charlie Batteries 2/57 Air Defense Artillery, in Ansbach and Hohenfels, Germany as a Tactical Control Officer.
